The STELLA final conference took place in Nancy, France, on 18 November 2009 with more than 240 teachers participating. The conference presented interesting science education initiatives in France and other European countries, and wanted to stimulate discussion among the participants on how to make science education more attractive for young people.

Science education workshops and practice examples

The STELLA project will hold its last workshops and final conference this autumn. The final conference – open to science teachers and educators from across Europe – will be held in Nancy, France, on 18 November 2009, and will be broadcast on the Internet in English and French. The final outcomes of the project will be presented at the conference, such as the STELLA eBook "Science Education in European Schools - Selected Practices from the STELLA Catalogue".

STELLA is continuously looking for teachers’ favourite initiatives and projects for the handbook on “Innovative practices in science education for European schools” which will also be published online. STELLA project is funded with support from the European Commission within the Lifelong Learning Programme.

STELLA project boosts science education in Europe

The STELLA project aims to foster better science education in Europe. In 2009, the STELLA team is creating a set of guidelines for documentation and transferability of good practices, which is an issue currently being debated in many countries. The guidelines are targeted to teachers, decision makers, school authorities and school heads and will be disseminated both at national and European level. The STELLA portal, which brings together interested stakeholders, aims to collect science education practices all over Europe.

Favourite initiatives in science education wanted for the STELLA Pool of good practices

Do you have a favourite science teaching initiative to share with other teachers and science experts? By using the online questionnaire on the STELLA (www.stella-science.eu) web portal teachers can quickly and easily submit their favourite initiatives to the STELLA online catalogue. The most interesting projects are highlighted in the STELLA Pool of good practices with detailed descriptions to enable their transferability in other contexts and countries. The STELLA activities, funded with support from the European Commission within the Lifelong Learning Programme, aim to improve the science education in Europe in particular in order to stimulate young people – especially girls - to undertake science studies and carriers.

STELLA Multimedia tools for teachers

STELLA: New tools to share best practices on the STELLA web portal

STELLA, a European project to improve science education in Europe by sharing ideas on teaching methods and best practices, had its third meeting on 24-25 November 2008 on the Portuguese Island of Madeira. The meeting focused on the new developments of the STELLA web portal, which now includes forums for teachers. A new section with various multimedia tools to support the work of teachers and school classes in science education projects was also launched on 10 December 2008.

Launch of STELLA - Science Teaching in Lifelong Learning Approach

Started in January 2008, STELLA will aim to contribute to the improvement of science teaching in European schools, in particular in order to stimulate young people to undertake science studies and carriers, with a special focus also on girls. The Project has been funded with support from the European Commission within the Lifelong Learning Programme and it will run till the end of 2009.
